Since limb lengthening surgery is really complex and expensive, most hospitals do not embrace it. However, in the United Sates, there are five institutions that do offer the surgery. The following information goes in accordance with the Short Persons Support website.
The Paley Institute
West Palm Beach, FL.
Dr. Paley performs leg lengthenings using the Intramedullary Skeletal Kinetic Distractor (ISKD) device. In December 2011 he began using the newer Precice System. The cost is about $US 85,000 for 6.5cm of lengthening and can go as high as $US 140,000 if there are complications.
Hospital for Special Surgery
New York, NY.
Hospital for Special Surgery is located in New York City. The Limb Lengthening Service performs most surgeries to correct defects but they will perform the operation for Constitutional Short Stature for the appropriate candidate. Svetlana Ilizarov, M.D. alond with S. Robert Rozbruch, M.D. operate on this condition for this hospital.
Lifebridge
Baltimore, MD.
In 2001, Drs. Paley and Herzenberg established the International Center for Limb Lengthening (ICLL) in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Herzenberg is still with the facility. There is also a section that specifically address Leg Lengthening for Constitutional Short Stature. The facility performs both the Lengthening Over Nails (LON) technique and the newer fully implantable self-lengthening nail (ISKD) technique.

Lengthening performed on the lower legs is done either with a Taylor-Spatial Frame (TSF) external device or the new PRECICE Internal Lengthening Nail. Lengthening the thighs uses Lengthening Over a Nail (LON) or a fully implantable self-lengthening rod. Dr. Shahab Mahboubian, D.O., MPH. performs this surgery for this hospital.
